4 Easy Monopoly Costume Ideas (2022 Guide)
Oh, Mr. Monopoly, is the real culprit behind sibling-on-sibling wars since it was released in 1970. So wouldn’t a monopoly man costume be perfect for dressing up for your next cosplay or Halloween party?
After scouring the internet high and low, I did not just pass GO and collect 200 dollars. I found the easiest monopoly costume ideas for the whole family, not just a Rich Uncle Pennybags costume, but outfit ideas showcasing a variety of the game’s entertaining antics.
Some of these Mr. Monopoly mascot costume ideas are character costumes you can make at home for a small amount of money, and other monopoly game piece costumes are complete kits you can buy. Regardless of whether you make a homemade costume from scratch or purchase one ready to put on, I made sure to find fun easy costumes so you can quickly put them together.
Monopoly Man Costume
If you want to dress up in the iconic Rich Uncle Pennybags costume, I bet you have some of these items already in your closet.
What You Will Need
- A black top hat
- White handlebar mustache
- Red bowtie

How To Make Your Costume
There’s a good chance you already have a white dress shirt, grey pants, black dress shoes, and a black blazer jacket. If so, you’re in luck, because you have about fifty percent of your Mr. Monopoly custom put together. If not, you can search at a local thrift store or retail clothing store or online.
Accessories like a red bowtie, black top hat, cane, and handlebar mustache might be a little harder to locate. You could try the suit and tux rental section at a department store for the top hat and bowtie. You can also check your local craft and party stores. Worst-case scenario, you can order them online or borrow them from a friend.

If you have time to plan your cosplay, and ordering a costume is no problem, you could be the classic jail space. It’s cute, recognizable, and downright hilarious.
What You Will Need

Alternatively, you can create an authentic cosplay by DIYing this one as well. Here’s what you’ll need:
- A white foam board
- Black thick elastic for the straps
- Velcro
- Exacto knife
- Black and red paint
- Paintbrushes
- Black and white stripe shirt and black pants
How To Make Your Costume
The first thing you need to do is sketch out the entire piece to know the design before cutting and painting. Then, cut out the rectangle jail holes. Position the elastic straps to fit in a criss-cross over the shoulders and around the back, so the person’s face is where the jail bars are. You can glue the tops directly to the foam board and attach the bottoms with velcro to make them easier to pull off.
Once the assembly is done, you can paint the rest of the board piece, using a picture for reference.
Monopoly Game Board
I have a couple of different options for this costume. You can wear a purchased t-shirt with the game board on it and call it a day. But hey, I think you can do better than that.
Here is a very clever and simple DIY costume to make yourself into a giant Monopoly Game board.

- Permanent markers in a variety of colors
- Hot glue gun
- Black thick elastic band about 30″ in length
- Black clothes and shoes

How To Make Your Costume
The first thing you need to do is fit the elastic around your neck and make sure it’s loose enough that you slip it on and off with no issues. Afterwards, mark on the back of the foam board where to glue the elastic and secure the elastic to the foam board using the hot glue gun.
Now that the assembly part is done, all that’s left is to draw the monopoly board game on the front of the foam board.
Alternatively, you can print off an image of the game board using sites like rasterbator.net. All you have to do is upload your image and select how big you want it. This website prints out a large version of your image on multiple pieces of paper, and you simply have to piece them together and glue them to the front of the foam board.
Get Out of Jail Free Card

How To Make Your Costume
The Get Out of Jail Free card is assembled in the same way that the Monopoly board is. The main difference is the shape. You might want to paint or glue on the image first and trim the bottom of the foam board to fit the image.
If you’re painting the image, cut the board to the rectangle shape of the card first. Then paint the entire board orange. Once that dries, sketch the rest of the image and paint it black.
If you’re using a printed image like described in the Monopoly Board costume, paste the image on the foam board first, then trim the board to fit the image.
Now you can glue your straps to fit over your head so it rests on your shoulders.
